Why You’ll LOVE Going Ductless

When it’s time to invest in a new HVAC system, or even HVAC duct replacement, you may want to consider a ductless option instead. The added expense of ductwork can make an installation significantly more expensive.

Skipping out on a more traditional ducted HVAC system can save you money in more ways than one. Plus, ductless mini split units have other benefits that a central unit cannot compare to. You can keep reading to learn more about the benefits of going ductless and why now might be a great time to do so.

What Is Ductless HVAC?

A ductless HVAC system is just what the name implies. It is a heating and cooling option that does not require any attached ductwork. Ductless models have smaller individual units dispersed throughout your home instead of a single central unit. Each individual mini split unit is placed in a way that it can heat and cool a room or zone of your house.

Ductless mini splits work as a smaller version of a heat pump. This means that they use refrigerant for both cooling and heating. During the summer, they absorb heat in your home and transfer it outside as a way of cooling. During the winter, they absorb heat from the outside and bring it into your home as a method of heating.

Potential Savings

One of the biggest benefits of a ductless mini split unit is the potential for energy savings. A ductless mini split reduces the chances of air getting trapped in ductwork or escaping through holes. 100% of the air that gets heated or cooled by a ductless mini split blows directly into your home.

But you also stand to save money on the installation. Ductless mini split units do tend to be more expensive compared to a central air conditioner or heater. But if you also have to install new ductwork, that expense can add up quickly.

When you consider the addition of new ductwork installation, a ductless mini split is likely the more affordable option. Even if it is a little more expensive upfront, the lifetime savings can add up quickly to make it the overall more affordable option.

Temperature Customization

Plus, you have to consider the added benefit of a ductless heat pump offering you the ability to customize temperatures across different zones and rooms of your home. You can use a ductless mini split system to maintain the same temperature across your entire home.

Or, you can close the doors and set temperatures in some rooms to be warmer or cooler, depending on any individual person’s preferences. This type of customization is not possible with a central unit.
