Signs Your Commercial AC Is at the End of Its Lifespan

You may think that your commercial air conditioner is much sturdier than your standard home air conditioner. However, the two systems are actually very similar. The key difference is that a commercial AC is much larger. It still requires the same maintenance and care and faces wear and tear as the years go by.

And eventually, it will be time to replace your commercial air conditioner. The question is, how do you know when the time is right? If you need commercial air conditioning service, including a commercial AC replacement, our team is here to help. Keep reading to learn about the signs that your commercial AC needs to be replaced. The more of these signs that you notice with your commercial air conditioner, the more likely it is that the unit needs to be replaced sooner rather than later.

High Energy Bills

You may notice that your energy bills are steadily going up a little at a time. It’s also possible that you could see one sudden spike in your energy use that you can’t explain. Either way, there is a good chance that your commercial AC is to blame. If your energy bills are significantly more expensive, that’s a sign that your AC is having to work much harder than it should to keep your space cool.

Uneven Temperatures

If one area of your business is warmer or cooler than the other areas, that is a red flag. Of course, our team can check out your ductwork and see if there are any changes we can make to even out the cooling. If your business has grown, there’s a chance that you need to upgrade your air conditioner to a larger size.

However, these things won’t help if the significant differences in temperature across your location mean that your air conditioner is simply not working as well as it should. When our team inspects the unit, we can make a determination and offer you a recommendation based on our expertise. We will never make repairs if we do not think they will make a difference to the problem at hand.

Loud Noises

If you hear unusual or startling noises coming from your commercial AC, that is a problem. While conditioning the air for your business is never completely silent, it also should not be loud or obnoxious. Any banging, rattling, or grinding means that something serious is wrong inside your air conditioner. It doesn’t matter if you hear a sound once or multiple times. You need to give us a call to check it out. Otherwise, the problem could spread and lead to damage throughout your entire commercial system instead of just one isolated area.

Bad Odors

There are a few reasons that your air conditioner can begin to produce bad smells. If the filtration system is impacted, bad odors may be recirculating through your business, which also means germs and bacteria are also recirculating. It’s also possible that mold or mildew is growing somewhere inside your commercial AC if you begin to smell something damp or musty. The third smell that you want to pay attention to is a burning smell. This can indicate that you have an electrical issue somewhere inside of your commercial AC.

System Age

You can expect your commercial air conditioner to last somewhere between 15 to 20 years. If you take excellent care of it and keep up with annual maintenance, there’s a good chance it could last even longer. But once you get into that 15 to 20-year range, it becomes more likely that you will need a commercial AC replacement. No amount of maintenance and repairs can keep your AC running forever. Eventually, wear and tear will add up enough that it makes more sense to replace the system.
