While it is completely normal for there to be water running inside of your AC occasionally, there are limits to what is considered normal. If you are concerned about hearing running water inside of your AC, or notice water leaks, you may need AC repair in Riverside.

The good news is, our team can help. We can come out and assess your air conditioner to let you know whether or not what you are seeing and hearing is normal. We can also address any problems to ensure that your AC is working at optimal efficiency to prevent water damage from any leaks.

Why Is There Water in My AC?

As part of the cooling process, your air conditioner does remove some of the humidity from the air. This happens as your air conditioner removes heat to cool the air. This moisture gathers together to create condensation that then drains outside of your home through your condensate drain line. If you hear running water occasionally, that is completely normal. However, if you begin to notice a water leak or hear running water more often, there’s a good chance that your condensate drain line is clogged.

Condensate Drain Line Clogs

Unfortunately, moisture is not the only thing entering your condensate drain line. There’s also a good chance that small particles of dust, dirt, and debris are also entering the condensate drain line. This is not a problem at first, but it can become a problem as particles stick to the sides of the drain line and cause clogs to develop. These clogs block water flow so that instead of the water exiting your home, it backs up into your home. This is when you may begin to hear or notice water leaks.

Solving the Problem

If you have a wet/dry vacuum, it’s possible that you could vacuum out the line to remove the clog on your own. However, if this doesn’t work, you need to give our team a call. Don’t try to continue troubleshooting the problem on your own, because there’s a chance that you could do more damage than good.

Our team can thoroughly clean out your condensate drain line to make sure that water can flow freely from start to finish. In some cases, we may need to also clean out other portions of your air conditioner. For example, we may need to gently hose off the coils on your outdoor unit to allow for optimal efficiency.

Preventing Future Clogs

You can prevent future clogs in two ways. First, pour some vinegar into the condensate drain line monthly to help clean out any miscellaneous debris. You can also prevent dust and dirt from getting into your system in the first place by making sure that you change your air filter on time every single month. If your air filter gets dirty and clogged, it can allow dust and dirt to escape through and into your system.

Contact RKM Heating and Air Conditioning today to schedule an appointment with our team for AC service.
